American Fine Dining

Don't think of it as dinner. Think of it as an artisitic culinary experience. Reservations are recommended several days in advance to allow ordering specialized seafood. Where else could you get grouper finished with vanilla over vermicelli made from squid ink? Or skate (sting ray wings) finished with cherry tomatoes and capers. It will put a bit of a dent in your budget, but it is certainly worth the experience. You can order an appetizer, entree or dessert separately or the prix fixe. The chef will surprise you with an additional taste treat to begin your meal and an additional sweet to finish. Your may wonder whether to photograph it or eat it, but you'll definitely want to savor each mouthfull. This was definitely better than any meal I had touring France.

A World-Class Restaurant
This restaurant, open most of the year, is absolutely outstanding. We have eaten there twice in the past year, both among the finest meals we have eaten anywhere -- here or in Europe. The restaurant is tastefully decorated, the ambience is low-key, and the service is friendly and knowledgeable. Dinner for two will run to $140-160, but is most definitely worth it for any special occasion. Can't be recommended too highly. [26 Jan 2004 18:35:52] chefmoz

Wonderful Country French Food in a Lovely Little Vermont Town
Aug 11, 2005: A TripAdvisor Member, Wentworth, NH

Nestled on a side street in this lovely little Vermont town (about 25 miles south of Burlington), Christophe's is a great country French dining experience. The restaurant is simply furnished with tables and a few banquettes, in a room painted soft yellow. The place is perfectly designed to showcase the star: the food. The food is creatively and beautifully prepared, and the service is swift and non-intrusive. Appetizers when we visited included squash blossoms stuffed with risotto and complemented by a red pepper/goat cheese coulis, and a field green salad with a French cheese. Everyone in our party had the sweetbreads, a classic French delicacy; these were the best sweetbreads that I have ever had -- light and delicately sauced. They have a wonderful wine list, with bottles in many price ranges -- we asked for a recommendation to go with the sweetbreads, and the chef's recommendation was a perfect and not pricey red. Each meal concludes with a selection of Christophe's hand-made chocolates -- also available to take home or by mail order. Exquisite food in a lovely, relaxed setting -- evocative of Provence. Although not inexpensive, the meal was well worth the price.
